Anya Parasher landed in Albuquerque, fresh from Stanford, California, at 12:30 Monday morning.
About 14 hours later, working on precious little sleep, the Albuquerque Academy senior won one of the season’s most important prep golf tournaments and kept intact her undefeated 2023-24 season.
Parasher and St. Pius’ Cade Freeze were the individual champions on Monday afternoon at Los Altos Golf Course at the Albuquerque Metro Championships, with the Academy girls and La Cueva boys taking the team titles in the last major tune-up before the state tournament next month.
Parasher birdied her first two holes, and also her final hole, for a 2-under-par 70 and a four-shot victory over La Cueva’s Stephanie Romero. From the Chargers, Anneliese Carlson was third after a 78.
“It definitely was a little bit of a roller coaster,” said Parasher, who is attending Stanford for the academics. She said she hopes to perhaps walk on with the Cardinal’s golf team. “I had a solid start. My swing was off today … but my being able to score was phenomenal.”
